Keep it Simple, Part 2

I had a friend in high school that once invited two different girls on dates at the same location at overlapping times.

It became very complicated and in the end, was a disaster – one of those hard life lessons learned.

Jesus said:

“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”  (Matthew 6:24, NLT)

Our lives get complicated when we try to follow Jesus without giving up our selfish desires.

Trying to pick and choose what we will do with Jesus while doing the same with the things this world has to offer will only result in conflict, worry, confusion, and unrest. It will always end badly – ultimately leading to eternal destruction.

Jesus offers you simplicity – focus on Him and follow wherever He leads and He promises to take care of the details being sure your needs are met (See Matthew 6:33).

Complicated or simple – what will you choose?

Sabbath Services

It’s been wonderful to have people back in our building again for worship. While our in person attendance has not high, it has been good.

Over the next few Sabbaths we will add some elements back into our worship service as we find people to lead out. Things like a live children’s story, live special music, and congregational singing. We will continue with social distancing, required face masks, and a format for our worship that focuses on both those who are watching at home and those attending in person.

Tentatively, we are looking to begin Sabbath School classes again following Labor Day (Sept. 12). Of course, this will depend on the current recommendation from our health professionals and our state and local government guidelines. We will let you know more as we get closer.

Whenever you feel you’re ready to join us in person, you’ll be welcome – as long as you’re willing to follow the current health and safety guidelines (click here to see them).

Worship Service DVDs

There is a video recording made of each week’s worship service. It is available on DVD. If you would like to receive these please contact Lori Knutson (402-980-5018).

Wherever Your Feet Walk …

Don Jacobsen's blog last weekend was titled Wherever Your Feet Walk ... and shares some thoughts about conflict and prayer.

The story you are about to read is true; only the names have been changed to protect the guilty.

Somewhere across the fruited plain was this dysfunctional church. Beautiful campus; ugly attitudes. The deacons didn’t like the elders; the public address people didn’t like the deaconesses. The adults didn’t like the youth; almost nobody liked the pastor. Getting a consensus on Board actions was about like praying the sun wouldn’t come up. Growth? Well, you can guess. No one likes to walk into a war zone.

The environment almost seemed as though a special retinue of demons had been assigned to create an impenetrable atmosphere of turmoil. And at times it seemed they might be winning … (Click here to read the entire post.)

From Bible Gateway’s Weekly Brief

Walking as a Spiritual Discipline: What happens when we literally walk out our Christian life? What does our physical being have to do with our spiritual life? What does the Bible actually mean when it exhorts us to walk in the light, or walk by faith, or walk in truth? How did Jesus model walking as spiritual formation? Bible Gateway interviewed Mark Buchanan about his book, God Walk: Moving at the Speed of Your Soul. (Click here to read more.)

The Third Great Love in Your Marriage: Jeff Shinabarger, co-author with his wife André of the book, Love or Work: Is It Possible to Change the World, Stay in Love, and Raise a Healthy Family?, says, "When we love the purpose of our partner, we exemplify for our children a commitment marked by equity, purpose, and partnership …" (Click here to read more.)

Sacred Pace – 4 Steps to Discerning God’s Will in Your Decisions: Terry Looper, author of Sacred Pace: Four Steps to Hearing God and Aligning Yourself with His Will, says, "As I reflect on my journey, what’s now more apparent to me than ever is that God has a sacred pace all his own for the decisions of our lives – and it’s almost never the high-speed plan we’re on. Yet if we seek him in the sacred pace of his sovereign timing, his Spirit will lead us to a sacred place: the heart of God’s will …" (Click here to read more.)
