Islands of Peace in 2021

This year certainly ranks right up there as the strangest year I have ever experienced. For many, it has also been the most difficult.

COVID-19 certainly caught us by surprise and found us ill prepared to deal with something so extensive and deadly. As a result, our lives and society look quite different as we end this year.

Rather than bringing us together to fight it in cooperation, it has driven us further apart. It has become one more political flash point.

And, we just completed an election that a large number of Americans feel is invalid, further dividing us.

We hardly listen to anyone with a differing point of view any more. More often than not, we dismiss them as ignorant, brainwashed, or other less printable names.

There are many who are saying that 2020 can’t end soon enough – we need a new start.

But COVID is unlikely to go away at midnight on December 31. And, it’s doubtful we’ll wake up on January 1 any less divided than we are now. (Click here to read the entire post)

Hangin’ Out

This week Don Jacobsen's blog is titled Hangin’ Out.

Think for a moment about the people you rub shoulders with on a regular basis (keeping social distancing in mind, of course). What percent of them would you guess are born-again, devout followers of Jesus? I’m not asking you to be judgmental, only observant.

You and I both know a lot of folks who, unless something supernatural happens on their journey, are probably not going to spend eternity with Jesus. Now that’s worrisome. Maybe the Lord would like to use us to help move them along on their life trajectory toward the kingdom. “But, I don’t know how to do that well, I’m shy, and God has never given me the title of evangelist. And besides that, I’ve been a believer so long I’ve about lost all of my unbelieving friends.” (Click here for the rest of the story.)
