The Graduation

Don Jacobsen's blog last weekend was titled The Graduation and shares some interesting thoughts on outreach.

For a month or so we’ve been delivering food and other items to some of the under-served parts of our community. You recall the proverb that if you give someone a fish they’ll eat for a day, but it you teach them to fish, they’ll eat for a lifetime… Well, we want to push on that idea and add, And if you help them own the pond they can become givers instead of receivers.

Don’t ask me what that will look like because we don’t know yet. But we are seeking the guidance of the Spirit. We’re in the early stages of our project and having a delightful time getting acquainted with some of the sweetest and most unselfish people we’ve ever met. We’ll leave bread and milk and beans and cereal and bananas at one place and the next day or so we’ll call on another family down the street and there is the some of that food. They shared it with a neighbor … (Click here to read the entire post.)

COVID-19 Update

We will begin opening up our building for services again on July 4, 2020. Watch for a letter to come in the mail sometime next week about the process we will go through and the guidelines put in place. This will also be available online through our website next week. Please pray for us as we transition back to using our building for worship and activities.

Wall of Love

We will continue to support the Bellevue Food Pantry through the month of June

Due to the continued increase in unemployment during the COVID-19 crisis, food pantries have seen a large increase in traffic. This is true for the Bellevue Food Pantry, which serves the Bellevue zip codes 68005, 68123, 68147, 68157. People in need – living in these zip codes – can pick up food every 30 days on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-12 am and 1-4:00 pm. Seniors can pick up food every 21 days.

You can take food donations to their office on Wednesdays between the hours of 1-4 pm (1912 Hancock Street in Bellevue – phone number 402-292-2961).

You may give funds through our Online Giving Portaldesignate your gift as Local Community Service. You may also mail a check to Golden Hills SDA Church, 3005 Golden Blvd., Bellevue, NE 68123. Make the check out to Golden Hills SDA Church and put Food Pantry in the memo line.
