May God be with you and protect you!

This week we have a guest blog written by our Head Elder, Kalvin Tuel.

We are certainly witnessing some scary and trying times in the world today. It seems a daily occurrence to see something new added to the list of already dreadful information we have received. We are witnessing numerous wars and rumors of wars daily, unusual weather events, social unrest, diseases with no cure, joblessness, and homelessness. The list could go on.

It is these times that faith in our Lord Jesus Christ really takes its place as the supporting pillar of our lives. I thank God that I know Him and have the many promises he has made to always be with me no matter what.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me … (Psalm 23:4, NIV)

It is easy to feel the darkness that surrounds us and lose sight of the Light of Jesus. Satan is working hard to block Jesus’ light from our view. To make us feel trapped and alone. But in Psalm we are assured that God is with us and we can stand up to the evil one.

Being courageous against such powerful forces can be unimaginably difficult. Satan brings with him a darkness filled with hate that is hard to imagine being possible. But this hate is no match for the power of our almighty God. He assures us that no matter what … no matter where you are … no matter where you go … He will be there with you.

“… Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NLT))

You are not alone if you are experiencing fear and uncertainty about the future. You, and I, and most of the world share your fear. We have the blessing of the peace that God brings to us through His Holy Word, the Bible. Seek out the Lord during these fearful times. I implore you to pray with your family. Pray with your neighbors, pray with complete strangers who are also looking for Peace.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. (Psalm 34:4, NIV)

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7, NIV)

Even though it can be difficult to see during stressful times, God really does have His guiding hand on the events of this world. We are not promised a carefree life by following God. We are promised that through the hardships, God will be with us every step of the way. And all you have to do is ask Him to hold your hand and help you through this dark valley. To help you find peace and hope in a troubled world.

May God be with you and protect you.

To our Almighty Lord and Savior, we pray to you today to send your Heavenly fleet of Angels to the world to help us through the stream of crisis we are mired in. To hold our hand as we face off against Satan and his horde of evil that is working hard to conquer us. Give us the strength to show the world that there are many good people that love God and them with all our hearts. And work through us to be a shining light to those that are scared and are facing uncertain times. Thank you, Dear Jesus, for never abandoning us no matter what.

Five Loaves and Two Tennis Shoes

Don Jacobsen's blog last weekend was titled Five Loaves and Two Tennis Shoes and shares some interesting thoughts on outreach.

In the midst of the coronavirus and some major civil unrest in our country, the Renton, WA church decided to take to the streets. They were able to locate 50 brand new backpacks and fill them with stuff for kids. They put out a call to their members for food, hygiene items, toilet paper, bread, and anything else a needy family might appreciate.

By mid-afternoon so much stuff had accumulated they jokingly discussed the need to set up a neighborhood store in the entry of the church. They sorted and packed and prayed and loaded the cars. And the heavens opened. I mean it rained – as it can in the Pacific Northwest. Undeterred, they headed for the parking lot.

But as they splashed through the rain someone spotted a destitute man sitting in the entryway of the church across the street … (Click here to read the entire post.)

From Bible Gateway’s Weekly Brief

Extremely Low Percentage of Americans Hold Biblical Worldview: The first national survey of the worldview of Americans conducted by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University shows that although seven out of ten consider themselves to be Christian, only 6% actually possess a biblical worldview. Bible Gateway interviewed veteran researcher and author George Barna about the American Worldview Inventory 2020. (Click here to read more.)

How to Handle Seasons of Delay in a God-Honoring Way: Banning Liebscher, author of The Three-Mile Walk: The Courage You Need to Live the Life God Wants for You, says, "Every time we set out to engage what God has called us to be and to do, delay is part of the journey, for a reason …" (Click here to read more.)

Here’s What Ascension Day Means for You: May 21 was Ascension Day. Forty days after Jesus rose from the grave, another miracle marked the completion of Jesus’ earthly ministry: the Ascension. This episode doesn’t get as much attention as Jesus’ birth, crucifixion, or resurrection. Christmas and Easter are major cultural events, even outside of Christian circles. But for many Christians, Ascension Day passes by with hardly a murmur of recognition or excitement. Why is that?  (Click here to read more.)
