Fast-Moving Pilgrims

Julian Archer, the author of Help, I’ve Been Blessed, sent out these thoughts in his latest email, The Bruised Camel.

Author C.S. Lewis wrote, “Our father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but He will not encourage us to mistake them for home.”

We can be so focused on the material blessings that God gives us, that we forget whose they are and what they are for. ‘Our’ assets are not actually ours. Money, houses, investments, clothes, sports equipment, furniture, decorations, tools and even talents are entrusted to us to be enjoyed, yes, but also to test us – to see whether we will use them for eternal interests or for selfish purposes.

We are called, trained, resourced and empowered to be fast-moving pilgrims. We have a simple but crucial mission – to help people to fix their eyes on Jesus Christ. God supports and funds this mission with the talents and possessions He entrusts to us. What a privilege!

Let’s use God’s resources to encourage people to fix their eyes on Jesus. In doing so we will also be empowered to keep our eyes on Him.

As Helen Lemmel penned, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”

Blessings, Julian

Take Time To Pray: from 24-7 Prayer

"I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where
does my help come from? My help comes from
the Lord, The Maker of Heaven and Earth."

– Psalm 121:1-2 –

When life gets busy, it's easy to lose focus. So right now, wherever you are, take time to re-focus on God by following these three simple steps:

    1. Invite the Holy Spirit to help you stop and pause: Keep it simple by saying, "Come, Holy Spirit".
    2. Be still, and be alert to what God might be saying: Reflect on the verse above by reading it through a couple of times.
    3. Ask for help where you need it: Be open and honest with the Lord today.

From Bible Gateway’s Weekly Brief

How to Overcome Anxiety and Depression: Nearly 20% of Americans suffer from mental illness – including anxiety and depressionaccording to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and people in church pews are not immune. Because prominent philosopher, author, and professor J.P. Moreland experienced it himself, he has now explored the spiritual and physical aspects of mental illness, and has discovered sound sources of information, treatment, and recovery. Bible Gateway interviewed J.P. Moreland about his book, Finding Quiet: My Story of Overcoming Anxiety and the Practices that Brought Peace. (Click here to read more.)

Braving the Storms of Life: From a working-class background in North Carolina to being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Randy Travis has sold more than 25 million albums in both country and gospel music. This seemingly charmed life began a downward spiral in 2009: his marriage dissolved, he discovered that his finances had unraveled, and his struggles with anger led to alcohol abuse, public embarrassment, and even police arrest in 2012. Then, just as he was putting his life back together, Randy suffered a devastating viral cardiomyopathy that led to a massive stroke which he was not expected to survive. Bible Gateway interviewed Randy Travis about his book, Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith, and Braving the Storms of Life. (Click here to read more.)

Verified Volunteers – Child Protection Screening

In cooperation with the Kansas Nebraska Conference, we are working with Verified Volunteers to provide background checks and on-line education for our church officers and everyone who works with our children. This helps ensure that we have some training to help us recognize and avoid situations that would put our children at risk. In addition to our elected Church Officers, everyone who works with Pathfinders and Adventurers, Children’s or Youth Sabbath School Classes, Children’s Church, and VBS must go through this training and submit to a background check (there is no cost to you). It will take about an hour of your time.

To download a PDF page of instructions and links to help you through this process, click here. To go to the website where you begin this process, click here and then select First-Time Registrant and follow the instructions. For more information, contact Pastor T (e-mail or 402-517-5333).
