Psalm 23

This week I’m simply sharing Psalm 23. It is written below in the familiar language of the New King James Version. To read it in other versions, click here.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. (Psalm 23, NKJV)

Sabbath Services – Opening Update

We continue to worship in person – at our building – and on line. It’s been nice to have people around us as we worship.

Sabbath School Classes – including all our children’s divisions – are scheduled to resume two weeks from Sabbath on October 3. There will be more information from the Sabbath School department coming about expectations and guidelines. For more information contact Andria Bethelmie (402-946-0006).

Pathfinders and Adventurers are planning to begin meeting on Monday, October 5. There will be a pre-meeting and registration event this Sunday (Sept. 20) at 3:30 – 4:30 pm at the Church. For information about Pathfinders contact Holly Degerness (402-917-4718) or Marina Nolasco (402-594-0671); for information about Adventurers, contact Lori Knutson (lknutson@yahoo.com).

We still continue with social distancing, required face masks, and a format for our worship that focuses on both those who are watching at home and those attending in person.

As we move forward from here, we will use the Pastor’s Blog, Golden News, our Website, and Remind to keep you informed.

Whenever you feel you’re ready to join us in person, you’ll be welcome – as long as you’re willing to follow the current health and safety guidelines (click here to see them).

Pathfinder & Adventurer Registration

Pathfinder and Adventurer Staff will be available to answer your questions and assist you with Registering your Pathfinder or Adventurer this Sunday afternoon from 3:30 – 4:30 pm at the church. Adventurers are ages 4-9 and Pathfinders for ages 10 and up.

If you would like an Adventurer packet prior to Registration, please email Lori Knutson at lknutson@yahoo.com and she will email you a packet. For information about Pathfinders contact Holly Degerness (402-917-4718) or Marina Nolasco (402-594-0671).

Regular meetings will begin in two weeks on Monday, October 5, at 6:30 pm.

Pastor T & Pat

Pastor T and Pat will be on vacation next week (Sept. 21 – 27) They will be unavailable by phone during that time although they will check emails from time to time. If you need to speak with someone regarding something at church or if there is an emergency, call any one of our Elders. Click here for their contact information.

Adventist Screening Verification

In cooperation with the Kansas Nebraska Conference, we are working with Adventist Screening Verification to provide background checks and on-line education for our church officers and everyone who works with our children. This helps ensure that we have some training to help us recognize and avoid situations that would put our children at risk.

In addition to our elected Church Officers, everyone who works with Pathfinders and Adventurers, Children’s or Youth Sabbath School Classes, Children’s Church, and VBS must go through this training and submit to a background check (there is no cost to you or to our church). It will take about an hour of your time.

To begin this process, click here, then select First-Time Registrant and follow the instructions. If you have completed this in the past three years, you should get an email reminder when it is time for you to renew your certification. For more information, contact Pastor T (402-517-5333).

Sermon Topics

It’s not too late to send in a topic or question for Pastor T to talk about in the current sermon series, Beyond the Fluff. Text him at (402) 517-5333, email him at martinsent@gmail.com, or send him a note at Golden Hills Church, 3005 Golden Blvd., Bellevue, NE 98123.

New Website

The launch of our new website has encountered a glitch due to the fires in California. We are not sure how long it will take to get it resolved. We’ll let you know as soon as it gets completed. Meanwhile, you can still use our old website at www.GoldenHillsChurch.org.

Worship Service DVDs

There is a video recording made of each week’s worship service. It is available on DVD. If you would like to receive these please contact Lori Knutson (402-980-5018).

The Restoration Business

Don Jacobsen's blog last weekend was titled The Restoration Business and shares some thoughts on how we relate to each other.

Recently Ruthie and I were sitting in a Bible study class. Not large; maybe a dozen or fifteen. Although it was off-topic of the material being studied, the teacher raised a question that got everyone’s attention: When is it appropriate for one Christian to rebuke another? he asked.

Rebuke is a rather strident word and I think we were all dredging for the “right” answer. The loving answer. The Jesus answer. We’ve probably all seen it done wrong. I’ve written earlier in this space about a young adult who came to our church to provide a vocal solo during the worship service. The song was not inappropriate, but one lady took offense, arose from her seat, went to the back of the room and stood with her hands over her ears. I wondered what her answer might be to the teacher’s question today. Fortunately, she wasn’t there today. Incidentally, the guest hasn’t been back, either.

… But what if people are being intentionally disobedient…don’t I have a responsibility to call them on that and warn them of the consequences if they don’t change their ways … (Click here to read the entire post.)

From Bible Gateway’s Weekly Brief

Is Love Your First Priority? What does the Bible mean when it instructs us to “speak the truth in love”? Does a biblically based Christian life mean you have all the answers? What should it look like for Christians to love their neighbors deeply and authentically? How is truth lived out in love in practical ways every day? Is what we believe less important than how we believe it? Bible Gateway interviewed Jared Byas about his book, Love Matters More: How Fighting to Be Right Keeps Us from Loving Like Jesus. Can Science Explain All the Complexities of Our World? Lee Strobel, co-author with Mark Mittelberg, of The Case for Christ: Daily Moment of Truth, says, "For me, the road to atheism was paved by science, but, ironically, so was my later journey to God. Good information, I am convinced, points us to a good God ..." (Click here to read more.)
