Do Our Prayers Really Limit Satan?

Don Jacobsen's blog last weekend was titled Do Our Prayers Really Limit Satan?. This, at least, is one time when it did.

My sister-in-law, Hazel, believes they do. Her phone rang about 2:30 one morning. A call at that hour is seldom good news and this one certainly wasn’t. It was Jan, a teen who had called often before, desperate. Usually Hazel could reason with the girl and convince her to go home from wherever she was. But this time she was calling from a bar and was in no mood for a discussion.

Hazel told her to wait there, dressed and drove downtown to pick her up.

Seeing that Jan was in no condition to be left alone, Hazel brought her to her own home. Jan lay down on the floor in the family room and passed out. Hazel sat beside her for two hours, praying. For the teen’s deliverance, for her salvation, and that she might discover how much Jesus loves her.

Suddenly Jan roused, stood up, and lunged at Hazel with an evil, angry look on her face. She grabbed Hazel around the neck and began to choke her with a strength that seemed superhuman. Desperate under the attack, Hazel called out, “In the name of Jesus take your hands off my neck now!” Instantly Jan released her grip and collapsed on the floor. Hazel sat by her side the rest of the night.

Hazel would learn that Jan had been using alcohol since she was in the seventh grade. One Saturday night she and some friends were attending a party where they were introduced to Satan worship. Although the details were hazy in Jan’s mind she remembered that that night she had committed her life to Satan.

The next couple of years Jan lived in hell. She seemed incapable of escaping Satan’s harassment. Everywhere she turned she seemed to meet him there. The friends she had chosen only helped to pull her down.

Jan’s mom and Hazel were part of a prayer group and they all covenanted to surround Jan with fervent, unceasing intercession. They held up before her promises from God’s Word of victory and cleansing. They built in her a realization of how much God loves her. They helped her discover that God had a plan and purpose for her life and that the enemy who hated her was no match for the God who loved her, that “… greater is He who lives in me than he that is in the world.” (I John 4:4)

You know how this story ends: the enemy’s strongholds were broken! Jan discovered that Jesus is who He claims to be. God got His child back. Jan’s mom got her daughter back. The enemy was repelled and it was reinforced in his mind that he is the loser – now and forever. (Click here to read this on line.)

From Bible Gateway’s Weekly Brief

How the Gospel Applies to Motherhood: As a mom, do you assume Scripture doesn’t have much to say about the food you make for breakfast, how you view your postpartum body, or what school choice you make for your children? How should you apply the gospel to common issues you face every day so you can connect your Sunday morning faith to the Monday morning tantrum? Bible Gateway interviewed Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler about their book, Risen Motherhood: Gospel Hope for Everyday Moments. (Click here to read more.)

What if What I Fear Most Happens? Jess Connolly, author of You Are the Girl for the Job: Daring to Believe the God Who Calls You, asks, "What if the circumstances we fear the most are the ones that will afford us the most abundance?" (Click here to read more.)

Bible Reflections – Unity Among Believers: We see little but disunity these days. But it’s faith that precedes obedience, just as obedience precedes understanding in the Christian’s life. With God, unity is possible among believers. (Click here to read more.)

Healthy for a Lifetime

Healthy for a Lifetime offers a powerful and positive message of hope to everyone who has seen family and friends affected by heart disease, diabetes, obesity and other conditions. There are few things more important than our health and while much time, effort, and money has been spend on ways to improve health over the past 50 years, obesity has nearly tripled, diabetes is up about 600%, and heart disease remains the leading killer.

Only whole food plant-based nutrition has been scientifically proven to actually reverse all these conditions without negative side effects, but this information has not been widely shared with the public. This is an opportunity to hear the evidence firsthand from the leading experts in a relaxed, fun, and non-medical atmosphere where all are welcome.

Healthy for a Lifetime will take place Saturday, October 19, 2019 starting at 9:00 am and concluding around 5:00 pm at the CHI Health Center in Omaha (455 N. 10th St., Omaha, NE). The cost for the seminar is $49.50 per person ($39.50 for full-time students) and includes a buffet lunch, free parking, and a gift bag. Click here for a  printable information sheet. Adventist Screening Verification

Verified Volunteers has changed their name to Sterling Volunteers. The NAD has decided to select a parent name that can remain in their publications and website landing pages on a permanent basis. The name chosen for all our background screening and training needs is Adventist Screening Verification.

In cooperation with the Kansas Nebraska Conference, we are working with Adventist Screening Verification to provide background checks and on-line education for our church officers and everyone who works with our children. This helps ensure that we have some training to help us recognize and avoid situations that would put our children at risk. In addition to our elected Church Officers, everyone who works with Pathfinders and Adventurers, Children’s or Youth Sabbath School Classes, Children’s Church, and VBS must go through this training and submit to a background check (there is no cost to you or to our church). It will take about an hour of your time.

To go to the website where you begin this process, click here and then select First-Time Registrant and follow the instructions. For more information, contact Pastor T (402-517-5333).
